Natively Periodic Fast Multipole Method: Approximating the Optimal Green’s Function

چکیده
The Fast Multipole Method (FMM) obeys periodic boundary conditions "natively" if it uses a Green function for computing the multipole expansion in interaction zone of each FMM oct-tree node. One can define "optimal" such method that results numerical solution converges to equivalent Particle-Mesh limit sufficiently high order multipoles. A discrete functional equation optimal be derived, but is not practically useful as methods its are known. Instead, this paper presents an approximation accurate better than 1e-3 LMAX norm and 1e-4 L2 counts. Such approximately offers practical way implementing with "natively", without need compute lattice sums or rely on hybrid FMM-PM approaches.

The Inverse Fast Multipole Method
This article introduces a new fast direct solver for linear systems arising out of wide range of applications, integral equations, multivariate statistics, radial basis interpolation, etc., to name a few. The highlight of this new fast direct solver is that the solver scales linearly in the number of unknowns in all dimensions. The solver, termed as Inverse Fast Multipole Method (abbreviated as...
متن کاملThe continuous fast multipole method
We introduce the continuous fast multipole method (CFMM), a generalization of the fast multipole method for calculating Coulomb interaction of point charges. The CFMM calculates Coulomb interactions between charge distributions, represented by continuous functions, in work scaling linearly with their number for constant density systems. Model calculations suggest that for errors in the potentia...
متن کاملGeneralized fast multipole method
The fast multipole method (FMM) is a technique allowing the fast calculation of long-range interactions between N points in O(N) or O(N lnN) steps with some prescribed error tolerance. The FMM has found many applications in the field of integral equations and boundary element methods, in particular by accelerating the solution of dense linear systems arising from such formulations. Original FMM...
متن کاملNew parallel optimal-parameter fast multipole method (OPFMM)
The three key translation equations of the fast multipole method (FMM) are deduced from the general polypolar expansions given earlier. Simplifications are introduced for the rotation-based FMM that lead to a very compact FMM formalism. The optimum-parameter searching procedure, a stable and efficient way of obtaining the optimum set of FMM parameters, is established with complete control over ...
متن کاملA Provably Optimal, Distribution-Independent Parallel Fast Multipole Method
The Fast Multipole Method (FMM) is a robust technique for the rapid evaluation of the combined e ect of pairwise interactions of n data sources. Parallel computation of the FMM is considered a challenging problem due to the dependence of the computation on the distribution of the data sources, usually resulting in dynamic data decomposition and load balancing problems. In this paper, we present...
